Celebrating Pride Month 2024

Pride Month is drawing to a close for another year, so we thought this was a good time, before the festivities officially end, to share what Tokio Marine HCC International (TMHCCI) has been up to this month.

Pride

Pride has long since cemented itself into the corporate calendar and there have been a host of events and activities taking place across the insurance sector. We kicked off our celebrations with Drag Bingo with Ginger, billed as a ‘glitzy bingo night with prizes, party anthems, dance-offs and team games’ with 50 of our colleagues from the UK and Europe coming together to celebrate the diversity of our business and to have a huge amount of fun.

Aside from our own events, our Pride Community, a core part of our wider Communities and Networks Group, have been getting involved in a host of events across the insurance sector, in particular partnering with Link, an organisation that supports and attracts the development of LGBTQ+ talent into, and within, insurance. We will also be joining hundreds of other insurance professionals at the Pride in London parade on Saturday 29 June.

Pride is about more than celebration, it is also about education – both within and outside the community and our people have been sharing their experiences, their challenges and their successes as LGBTQ+ people in TMHCCI and insurance.

A key focus for us this year was promoting the fertility support available to our people. When we talk about challenges around fertility, that conversation is usually focused on heterosexual couples and people but we took the opportunity this year to emphasise that these issues affect everyone. There’s still a long way to go regarding employers recognising that paths to parenthood are different and often more complex for LGBTQ+ members but we’re working to become accredited as a Fertility Friendly company by the end of the year.

While the focus has been on the LGBTQ+ community throughout June, TMHCCI is committed to providing a working environment where everyone can show up as their authentic self, regardless of who they are or where they have come from, showing that they are not alone and that they have allies at work supporting them every step of the way.

It is only by bringing in the perspectives and the voices of a diverse group of people into our working lives that we can truly understand our customers and provide them with the support and the services that they rely upon us to provide.

It’s been another great (and hugely enjoyable) Pride month so thanks to everyone who made it happen, both within TMHCCI and throughout the insurance sector.
