As one of the world’s leading insurers, we’re committed to recognising the important role we play to help our employees and communities thrive with confidence. At Tokio Marine HCC International (TMHCCI), our core charity program pillars, including community development, embody our philosophy to make a real difference.
Swapping the office for the great outdoors, Ian Batchelor, Head of Group Property and Facilities Management, dedicates his free time to volunteering as a Scout leader in Gosport, Hampshire. Ian’s local Gosport Scouts group provides youth activities to over 700 young people in the south-east coast of England. The group meet weekly and is attended by children aged between 10.5 to 14 years old, empowering them to develop their personal skills and make positive contributions to society. The programme’s packed with fun outdoor adventures, so they can explore, conquer new challenges and make new friends along the way.
When the Scout hall needed refurbishment, the team from DIY SOS was unfortunately busy, so Ian stepped in to save the day. The refurbishment of the local Scout hut became a collaboration project between Tokio Marine HCC International and two of our contractors, Mitie and ISG. Ian used his property management expertise and TMHCCI volunteer leave to oversee the project, which took a few days to complete.
The contractors worked their magic completely refurbishing the toilets and laying down new flooring. Once the core work was complete, they redecorated the entire hall and corridors with a fresh lick of paint and spruced up the outdoors mowing the lawn and tidying up the garden. To finish the project, the team changed all the lighting to energy efficient LED lights, recycled surplus furniture and covered the radiators with child-safe protectors.
The Scout hall is an invaluable asset to the community and everyone was thrilled with the end result of the refurbishment.
